Imagine: John Lennon (Deluxe Edition) $4.50 It can hardly be a coincidence that this “deluxe edition” of John Lennon – Imagine should be issued in late 2005, a couple of months after what would have been the former Beatle’s 65th birthday and mere days before the 25th anniversary of his death. Whether that’s cynical, poignant, or just good marketing is moot; what matters is that Lennon’s impact, not just as a musician but as a public figure,… |

Chicago $4.94 The movie version of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago was long in the making, but it’s well worth the wait. Director Rob Marshall’s main change was to turn the classic musical numbers into fantasy sequences, but of course this isn’t obvious on CD. Most importantly, the arrangements are bursting with life while being true to the show’s spirit, and the casting is simply inspired. Catherine Zeta-Jones actual… |

William Henry Harrison: A Bibliography $113 Although William Henry Harrison died a month after becoming President, he lived a full and accomplished life before assuming the presidency. As a member of Congress, he sponsored legislation dividing the Northwest Territory. As governor of the Indiana Territory, he led a movement to suspend the provisions of the Northwest Ordinance and earned a reputation for acquiring large land cessions from the Indian tribes, winning the affection of white settlers and the animosity of Native Americans. Serving as brigadier general during the War of 1812, he then served in the Ohio legislature and the U.S. Senate, and was named minister to Colombia. This bibliography provides a guide to the literature on his extensive career. |
