Plated Commemorative

Does anyone know what these cars are worth?

I have 2 racing car die-casts. The first car is a 24K gold plated commemorative series #64 die-cast 50th anniversary edition. The driver was Dick Trickle. The year is 1998 Monte Carlo.

The second one is a blue colored 1998 du-pont die-cast with a superman logo on the hood.

Any ideas on how much these cars are worth/valued at?

The blue colored car is 1/24 die-cast, has no box, and is made by the Hasbaro company.

More information needed.

What company produced them? Companies active at the time were Action, Revell, Racing Champions and Hasbro/Winners Circle.

What scale (size)? 1/64 are small, and were packaged in blister packs or a box that would fit in the palm of your hand. 1/24 are larger and are boxed.

What condition are the boxes? They need to have very little to no wear on them to get the best price.

Were the cars ever displayed out of their boxes? If a 1/64 was taken out of a blister pack, it’s not going to be worth much at all. Collectors don’t want them.

Is the 1998 Dupont car a Jeff Gordon? It should be.

OK. Both cars were the lower-end mass-market versions found in stores like K-Mart (where my dad bought many of his in the ’90s), KB Toys and Toys R Us. Action Performance were the better-made cars but cost quite a bit more. For the prices originally paid, some of the Racing Champions cars that were made in small numbers have been a better investment than some of the more expensive Action cars.

Unfortunately, your 1998 Dick Trickle car isn’t one of them. He wasn’t anywhere near a top driver, and he had name recognition only as a running joke on ESPN Sportscenter because of his name, not his driving skills. You would be doing well to get $10 for it if you can. They don’t do well on eBay because it costs $8 – $10 just to ship one car.

The Superman car, if it was new in the box, in the $15 – $20 range, but out of the box, $2 to no more than $5.
