Uncirculated 2005 Buffalo Nickels value?
In 2005 I rushed to the bank and bought a lot of buffalo nickel rolls, thinking they might one day have a nice increase in value. I’ve been needing some extra money recently, and am wondering if these nickels will ever really be worth more than face value. Whatever value they hold or may hold would be helpful. I really want advice on whether to keep them all or just couple as a novelty. Thanks!
With a $2 face value per roll, these are already selling at a premium on eBay, anywhere from $1 to $5 over face, per roll. Rolls from the Denver mint seem to be a bit higher than the P mint rolls. If you have some from both mints, a two-roll set can do even better.
But keep in mind that you won’t see all of this premium if you sell on eBay. Those values include the cost of shipping, so that $7 per roll is what the buyer is paying. The cheaper you can make the postage, the more you’ll get.
For example: A two-roll set sold for $10, which would be yours minus any selling and payment-processing fees. The total cost to the buyer was $18. If you could find a way to safely ship them for $4, someone willing to spend $18 would put more money in your pocket.
How much could these be worth in the future if put away and left alone? Absolutely nobody can say with any certainty.
